Welcome back to yet another edition of The Drop.  With Ultra Music Festival 2012 (UMF 2012 – winner of Best Music Event 2011 among other awards) just four days away, I felt it fitting to make it the focus of this weeks post.

If you’re lucky enough to make it out to Miami this week then be sure to check out as many artists as possible. If I were making it down there then I would definitely check out the following:

Afrojack, Avicii, Bassjackers, Bassnectar, Bingo Players, Chris Lake, Dada Life, Datsik, Dirty South, Fedde Le Grand, Gesafellstein, Gui Borratto, Hard Rock Sofa, Kaskade, Keys N Krates, Michael Woods, Miike Snow, Mord Fustang, Nicky Romero, Porter Robinson, Pretty Lights, Sander Van Doorn, Sultan & Ned Shepard, Swanky Tunes, Tommy Trash and Wolfgang Gartner.

Below are some of my favorite tuneskees from some of the artists above.

This track is a collaboration with Shermanology. It features great melodies and some classic sounding Afrojack synths. Check out the mashup Hardwell made called Can’t Stop Me RIA. It adds a little bit of a harder feel to it.

Bassjackers are a duo DJ and producer collaboration. They combined back in 2007 and have since made a strong impact on the EDM scene. Mush Mush was released at the beginning of 2011. I actually heard it for the first time on what I think was either Fedde Le Grand’s or Martin Solveig’s set last year at UMF. Prepare for awesomeness!

Do you love Bass? If you do, as most of us EDM addicts do, then you are going to love Bassnectar. This remix of Nelly Furtado’s Magical World is UNREAL!!! I really can’t stress how ‘magical’ Bassnectar has made this track. Turn up dat BASSS!!!

Have you heard of Gesaffelstein? It’s a mouthful lol. This is probably one of the best tracks I have heard so far this year. I recently looked on his Soundcloud, MySpace, Beatport, Facebook and official website and yet there is not a single word of information on this guy aside from his tour dates. I’m thinking maybe he’s going for a certain kind mystery. Definitely check this guy out if you’re down in Miami later this week! Who knows what he will have in store … haha.

If you listened to Swedish House Mafia live at Madison Square Gardens then you will probably remember this track. They opened their set with this one. I’m pretty sure it was the first time anyone from the general public had heard it too. Such a banger!

Lastly is this electro-house track by the name of Cascade by Tommy Trash. Tommy Trash’s The End was also featured in SHM’s set at MSG back in December 2011.

If you’ve already got your tickets for Ultra … damn you. I’m very jealous as it sold out this year in record time. Please have an extra awesome time for those of us that can’t make it!

See you guys next week! Remember to send requests to globalmusic@djmag.ca
